Working closely with TranSystems Engineering, CDOT, RTA, CTA and Metra, DLK developed creative architectural solutions and design concepts for the proposed West Loop Transportation Center.
Designed to meet the transit needs of the workers that will occupy an estimated 40 million square feet of office space to be added to the downtown area by 2020, this major transportation is a four level, multi-modal train/bus station under Clinton Street just west of the Chicago Loop.
The station is almost 1200 feet long and is filled with natural light via linear atriums that open to the sky through the landscaped median along Clinton. Its pedestrian concourse serves as a direct and enclosed connection between Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station, linking CTA bus and rail, Metra, Pace and Amtrak services. There are also street connections and potential for connections below grade to adjacent commercial properties along Clinton. This large and potentially complex facility has been rendered straightforward and passenger friendly through the cooperative teamwork of DLK and TranSystems.
