Riverside
Vision Plan,
Riverside, Illinois |
 |
| The Vision Plan was developed at the direction of the Board of Trustees to assist the Village of Riverside in considering its future. It is a collaborative effort by the Board, residents, architects, planners, landscape architects, historians and preservationist, and uses as reference the considerable amount of previous planning and research about Riverside completed by the Board, Commissioners, and volunteer residents over the years.
The Plan was developed as a modern overlay to Olmsted’s original Landmark Plan of 1869. The Vision Plan draws from Olmsted’s principles and outlines recommendations to cope with societies current demands.
The Plan can be implemented after the residents, elected officials, and interested community organizations have reached agreement on priorities for the critical questions that confront the entire Village, and have come to some consensus on how to resolve them. Moreover, there must be commitment to take action to prepare for Riverside’s prosperity and health in the next millennium.
The team of DLK, LDR International, and Charles Beveridge held a workshop with those who live, work, and care about the Riverside community. This workshop, and the preceding opinion survey of residents, comprised two opportunities to begin to achieve community consensus.
