North Shore Channel Park, Skokie, Illinois
Hayden Bulin Larson was been engaged by the Village of Skokie to develop a comprehensive master plan for the park space along the west bank of the North Shore Channel. This channel is a major waterway forming the eastern-most border of Skokie, Illinois. The linear park area along the channel creates a major open space and passive recreational facility for the residents. Its pathways are extensively used for bicycling and walking enthusiasts. In addition, this linear space is used for a well-known sculpture park for monumental piece of art.

This master planning study makes recommendations for appearance, functionality and identity in the Park and recommends design standards addressing pedestrian and vehicular considerations, unifying existing site features and amenities and includes appropriate landscaping and new pedestrian amenities. In addition, a standard design ‘envelope’ for new sculptural additions was also developed. Improvements to the park are slated for completion in 2005.
