| As part of the national Mars Millennium Project, the Adler Planetarium developed the Mars Exploration Station
Exhibit to help visitors imagine life on Mars.
DLK developed an architectural representation of what a settlement on Mars might
be like, and created four graphic panels that were included in the exhibit.
The design emerged from several discussions with representatives of the Adler and
from brainstorming sessions within DLK. Our designers discussed what it would take to establish a viable community on Mars, and what
sort of structure would withstand the planet’s physical conditions. An important consideration in the design was the age of the visitors,
mostly junior high school children.
