Jefferson Park Neighborhood Transit Center, Chicago
Metra’s Jefferson Park station is part of an intermodal facility with easy connections to CTA rail and bus as well as Pace. DLK Civic Design was already engaged in preparing landscape upgrades design and public participation processes for the CTA Jefferson Park facility when Metra requested DLK’s involvement on the Metra portion of the site. The northwest Chicago community’s Illinois State Representative had procured Illinois First funding for the area and after looking at various options for site improvements, the community chose the areas of focus:

Landscape and hardscape upgrades to the CTA Jefferson Park Station

Landscape and hardscape upgrades to the Metra Jefferson Park Station

Sustainable landscape improvements for the Metra Embankments

Streetscape improvements along Milwaukee Ave, in order to achieve an ADA compliant link between the two stations

Station identifier signage design

Pedestrian bridge upgrades, including enclosures and railings

Pedestrian tunnel upgrades including lighting, tile and art panels crafted by area students

New head house and canopies on Metra platform

Services included conducting a series of public meetings, schematic design, cost estimation, and design development.
