| DLK was the Prime Consultant for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Job Corps Training Center. This 11-building, 210,000 square-foot educational and vocational training facility for young adults is located along the Sanitary and Ship Canal on Chicago’s industrial West Side. The program includes dormitories, a child care center, classrooms, an administrative and health care facility, a cafeteria, a gymnasium/recreational center, a warehouse, and a light industrial training facility. The free-standing child care building is designed for 70 children.
The group-use and educational buildings are situated around an expansive quadrangle with gardens,
walkways, and landscaped playing fields overlooking the canal. The dormitories and buildings are clustered in a
residential manner. Although the buildings are all newly constructed, their
style is derived from the industrial traditions of the National Heritage Corridor on which the site is located.
