| DLK was asked by Chicago's Public Building Commission to recommend
improvements to Daley Plaza, a civic space that has accommodated crowds
in the tens of thousands. After consulting with civic groups and original architect Jacques
Brownson, DLK developed a scheme to repair the Plaza’s infrastructure
that responded to contemporary use and respected the Modernist monumentality
of the adjacent Daley Center and the well-known Picasso sculpture that
resides on the plaza.
The deteriorating granite pavers were replaced with thicker, matching granite over a new water-proof membrane. In addition,
fountain mechanisms were replaced with new, more efficient hardware.
