Design Guidelines for Strip Malls, Chicago
DLK created design guidelines for strip mall development for the City of Chicago. The guidelines feature site specific scenarios for pedestrian, transitional and automobile context, and provide building guidelines, arcades and signage design.

The guidelines were created as a response to the Strip Mall Ordinance which is intended to promote commercial development that is contextual with the surrounding neighborhoods, provides adequate landscaping, mitigates potential traffic conflicts, screens trash containers and loading docks from public view, and minimizes signage clutter. It also encourages maintenance of urban streetwalls and enhancement of pedestrian activity within commercial corridors and neighborhood shopping districts.
