The Art Institute of Chicago: Architecture Exhibit
The exhibit “Chicago Architecture 1923-1993” examined the city’s planning and building over the course of the twentieth century. Eight architects were chosen to design separate exhibit spaces for eight different categories. DLK designed the section of the exhibit devoted to Urban Planning.

Our idea was to create, within a limited budget, a series of vaulted and paneled rooms in which the historic materials detailing Chicago’s urban plans could be viewed. We sheltered the historic materials in an enclosed, quiet setting where they could be seen and considered. The materials included unpainted lumber and wood lath for the vaulted areas, and unpainted, ornamented plywood panels for each of the gallery rooms.

The Exhibition and each of its eight component spaces received an Interior Architecture award in 1994 from the Chicago Chapter of the AIA.
